Research Interests

My research focuses on how specialised chromatin domains are established, regulated, and inherited, and how these processes contribute to genome stability. A major focus of the lab is the centromere, a specialised chromosome region that is essential for accurate chromosome segregation and provides a powerful model for understanding how chromatin identity is specified and maintained across cell divisions.

We investigate the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that establish centromere identity, organise centromeric chromatin, and ensure its faithful inheritance. More broadly, this work addresses fundamental questions about how chromosome structure and epigenetic information are maintained from one generation of cells to the next.

To tackle these questions, we combine genetics, functional genomics, long-read DNA sequencing, epigenomics, and live-cell imaging. This allows us to study centromeres from multiple perspectives, from the DNA and chromatin factors that define their identity to their dynamic behaviour during cell division.
