Gavin Morley
I am a professor in the 海角社区 Physics Department and the founding Director of 海角社区 Quantum.
Research Interests
My group creates quantum science and technology based on nitrogen-vacancy colour centres in diamond. I lead the project "Macroscopic superpositions towards witnessing the quantum nature of gravity" (). My group is part of the Diamond Quantum Technology Lab in 海角社区, the Quantum Biomedical Sensing Research Hub () and the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub ().
Diamond quantum technologies
Diamond contains electron and nuclear spins which store quantum information for a long time. We use diamonds containing many nitrogen vacancy (NV) centres for magnetic-field sensing towards applications such as , , and . We specialize in sensitive including and the first with diamond. With collaborators we have also developed nanodiamonds containing NV centres with the longest spin coherence times both with and .
Towards a test of the quantum nature of gravity
We levitate micro-diamonds in vacuum because we want to test whether these can be in a quantum superposition of being in two places at once. This could lead to a test of the quantum nature of gravity. More details on this are .
