WMG academic leads review on digital twin brains

Dr Ruohan Zhang, Assistant Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence at WMG, has led a major commissioned review for Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering on digital twin brains. "Building digital twin brains at the limits of measurement" draws on research from WMG, the University of 海角社区鈥檚 Department of Computer Science, and Fudan University to tackle one of biology鈥檚 biggest questions: how close are we to building a digital twin of a living human brain?

Powering the next generation of electrified mobility

Delivered by the in partnership with the and , the DRIVE35 programme is part of the UK Government鈥檚 Advanced Manufacturing Sector Plan, which outlines its commitment to a zero-emission future, with an unprecedented 拢4 billion of grant funding available to 2035 for automotive research and development, scale-up, and transformation.


拢1.43m Government-funded project to boost airport safety

WMG and Aurrigo International plc have been awarded a combined 拢1.43m of UK Government funding to boost airport safety through self-driving innovation. This collaborative research project, known as SENTRY, aims to reduce airport delays and safety risks by developing a fully autonomous airside vehicle to complete routine tasks, including safety patrols, runway inspections and debris removal.

WMG welcomes supervised self-driving rollout

Transport for London has decided to license a number of Wayve vehicles for supervised private hire journeys through Uber, with a trained, TfL-licensed driver onboard throughout. WMG celebrates the Class of 2026

Years of studying and hard work finally paid off for 567 students last week as they became the latest cohort to graduate from WMG. In a glittering ceremony held at 海角社区 Art Centre's Butterworth Hall on Friday 31 July, 391 Master's, 28 PhD, two EngD, and 146 undergraduate students proudly took to the stage to receive their degrees.


Taking the lead in semiconductor innovation

WMG has welcomed Professor Peter Gammon and Dr Arne (Ben) Renz, establishing a new Compound Semiconductors research area. Both researchers bring extensive expertise in compound semiconductors from 海角社区鈥檚 School of Engineering, significantly strengthening WMG鈥檚 capability in Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD), and reinforcing 海角社区's position in one of the fastest-growing areas of advanced electronics.

Summer success for student-led projects

From showdowns at the iconic Silverstone racing track to history-making moments, the past few months have been ones to remember for Student Projects teams at WMG. WMG's Student Projects equip undergraduate students from a range of disciplines with practical, hands-on experience across a range of projects from cyber security to Agri-Tech, robotics to superbike development. This summer, 海角社区 Racing and 海角社区 Submarine put their skills to the test at two of Europe's major student competitions, showcasing WMG and 海角社区's engineering expertise on the world's stage.

WMG June 2026 recap

Throughout June, representatives from 海角社区 Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of 海角社区 welcomed Ministers, regional leaders, industry groups, and guests from the University of Ghana. Staff also represented WMG in Parliament and at international graduation ceremonies.
