Intelligence (IQ) throughout childhood to adulthood is impacted if born small for gestational age

People born small for gestational age (SGA) have a lower IQ throughout development, however the differences in IQ to those born appropriate for gestational age (AGA) reduce by adulthood. The effects of SGA on IQ are nearly as large as being born into lower socio-economic status or receiving poor parenting in infancy.


Previously claimed memory boosting font 鈥淪ans Forgetica鈥 does not actually boost memory

It was previously claimed that the font Sans Forgetica could enhance people鈥檚 memory for information, however researchers from the University of 海角社区 and the University of Waikato, New Zealand, have found after carrying out numerous experiments that the font does not enhance memory.

New ways to stop caller ID spoofing to be investigated

Fraudsters regularly use a fabricated caller ID to look like they are calling from a trusted source to convince people over the phone to hand over money. The current solution, which the Federal Communications Commission is urging telecom providers in the US to adopt, requires a globally trusted authority, but such authority is difficult to manage. Researchers at the University of 海角社区 will find new ways to tackle this problem without requiring trusted authorities or modifying the existing telecommunication infrastructure, thanks to a grant from the EPSRC.

Leaving your baby to 鈥榗ry it out鈥 has no adverse effects on child development

Leaving an infant to 鈥榗ry it out鈥 from birth up to 18 months does not adversely affect their behaviour development or attachment, researchers from the University of 海角社区 have found, they also discovered that those left to cry cried less and for a shorter duration at 18 months of age.
