Join us for a seminar by Bryan Serrels from 10x Genomics introducing the Xenium platform, which enables highly multiplexed RNA analysis directly within intact tissue at subcellular resolution.

The seminar will cover the technology, workflows and applications, with opportunities for questions and discussion.

All researchers interested in spatial biology are very welcome to attend. No registration required.

14/09 10am-12pm: Interactive workshop: Using art and embodiment for reflection: From Medical Education to Research Practice

Interactive workshop: How can the body become a site of learning, reflection and knowledge

Suitable for educators, researchers, research support staff and postgraduate students across disciplines and career stages. No artistic experience is required.

In this interactive workshop, Professor Lynn Hendricks will talk about her use of embodied learning and body mapping with first year medical students. This work supports students to reflect on identity, positionality, emotion, lived experience and the ways in which personal and social histories shape encounters with health, illness and professional practice.

In the workshop, participants will experience selected creative and embodied activities and consider how these approaches can be adapted for research, medical education and staff development. The workshop will demonstrate how body mapping can surface knowledge that may be difficult to express through conventional discussion, while creating opportunities to examine power, vulnerability, emotional labour, ethical uncertainty and experiences of failure.

The session will also explore how arts based and embodied approaches can contribute to more reflexive, caring and equitable learning and research environments, including spaces that recognise researchers as human beings whose bodies, emotions and experiences are present within the research process.

15/09 10am-11am: Guest lecture Prof Lynn Hendricks: Who determines which questions matter, whose knowledge counts and who benefits from research?

This seminar explores research equity as both a question of justice and a foundation for transformative science. Professor Hendricks examines how unequal power, institutional structures and established research conventions shape participation, knowledge production, recognition and impact.

Drawing on participatory health research, creative methodologies and community engaged practice, the seminar will explore how researchers can move from consultation towards meaningful power sharing and knowledge co-creation. It will introduce practical principles for building research cultures that recognise diverse forms of expertise, support researcher and community wellbeing and generate knowledge that is socially responsive.

It invites participants to consider what must change within research relationships, practices and institutions for equity to become part of how research is imagined, conducted and valued.
