 s are meeting for COP31\, the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN F
 ramework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Antalya\, Türkiye in N
 ovember 2026\, at a time when multilateralism and international law are 
 facing significant geopolitical and economic crises and fragmentation. E
 scalating military conflicts\, rising energy vulnerabilities\, trade and
  financial shocks\, and intensifying competition over trade\, technology
  and critical resources are reshaping the political space for cooperatio
 n and the material capacity of states to deliver ambitious climate actio
 n. These pressures are particularly acute for developing countries\, whi
 ch confront rising climate impacts alongside constrained access to affor
 dable finance\, technology and policy space. This lecture examines what 
 is at stake for the UN climate process in this challenging global contex
 t\, especially for countries and communities who are least responsible f
 or\, but who bear the greatest impact of climate change. The lecture wil
 l consider the main issues at stake in Antalya\, what challenges will be
  confronted in negotiation halls and beyond\, and the role and importanc
 e the multilateral climate regime in the current global context. About t
 he Speaker: Vicente Paolo Yu is Honorary Professorial Fellow at the GLOB
 E Centre\, º£½ÇÉçÇø Law School and Visiting Fellow with the Institute for
  Advanced Study (IAS)\, University of º£½ÇÉçÇø. He is a Senior Legal Advi
 sor with the Third World Network\, Senior Lecturer\, University of the P
 hilippines College of Law\, Visiting Research Fellow at the United Natio
 ns Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD)\, and Associate Fe
 llow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. Mr Yu has decades of expe
 rience with trade and climate negotiations and has worked with governmen
 ts\, UN agencies NGOs on global governance\, climate change\, investment

DESCRIPTION:About the Event: Theme: AI in and beyond Work in the UK: Cont
 esting New Forms of Exploitation and Surveillance The use of Artificial 
 Intelligence at work has become an issue for industrial disputes across 
 many sectors in the UK. These issues include AI being used as an opportu
 nity for layoffs and casualisation\; deskilling\; new forms of algorithm
 ic management and surveillance\; work intensification\; and unpaid data 
 extraction. Simultaneously\, the UK government has pursued a pro-tech-se
 ctor AI policy – involving multiple new public sector contracts\, data c
 entres and nuclear power projects – while communities raise urgent quest
 ions about not only the environmental impact of data centres but also th
 e governmental and corporate data extraction and use of AI to manage\, p
 redict\, police and wage war. We will discuss the political and legal qu
 estions this conjuncture raises: the relationship between labour\, data 
 and value\; state and corporate knowledge and power through new AI and d
 ata extraction infrastructures\; the unequal distribution of harms\, env
 ironmental implications and violence\; and the possible relationships be
 tween labour and community forms of organising and resistance. About the
  Speaker: Dr Dimitra Kotouza is a researcher in the trade union research
  organisation LRD and an independent scholar. She focuses on the politic
 s of class and labour movements\, psychic life\, and the scientific and 
 technological governance of our ability to work. Her research has appear
 ed in journals such as History of the Human Sciences\, Critical Social P
 olicy\, Critical Studies in Education\, SSM - Mental Health and Journal 
 of Labour and Society\, as well as in non-academic publications such as 
 Mute\, of which she was a co-editor. She is author of Surplus Citizens (
 Pluto Press\, 2019)\, which brought into theoretical dialogue social mov
 ements in the Greek debt crisis. At LRD\, she produced the guide AI at W
 ork (2026). She holds a PhD in Politics and Governance from the Universi
 ty of Kent. Chaired by: Dr Serena Natile\, º£½ÇÉçÇø Law School About The

 \, and Development Learning Circlebrings together staff and students acr

DESCRIPTION:About the Event: º£½ÇÉçÇø operations involving offshore compa
 nies have reached a significant global scale. It is estimated that the t
 otal financial assets held by individuals and companies in tax havens am
 ount to approximately USD 13.25 trillion\, representing roughly 12 perce
 nt of global GDP. However\, the legal status of such assets is sometimes
  uncertain. A major challenge arises from the conflict between demands f
 or transparency – and the associated registers of beneficial owners\, wh
 ich the international community legitimately advocates – and the individ
 ual right to privacy and data confidentiality\, which is grounded in int
 ernational legal instruments (such as data protection legislation). The 
 clash between these two rights presents a significant legal challenge\, 
 necessitating the implementation of new mechanisms\, such as limited tra
 nsparency\, based on the demonstration of a legitimate legal interest. T
 his seminar will discuss the criteria distinguishing lawful from unlawfu
 l business activities involving offshore companies under national and in
 ternational law\, paying particular attention to the distinction between
  lawful tax optimisation and unlawful conduct. About the Speaker: Bostja
