Corinne Smith - Director
Professor Corinne Smith is based in the School of Life Sciences at 海角社区. Her laboratory investigates the structure and mechanism of clathrin coated vesicle formation during clathrin-mediated endocytosis using a range of structural and biophysical techniques.

Saskia Bakker - Manager
Dr Saskia Bakker manages the Advanced Bioimaging RTP facility. She has a wide knowledge of all the equipment the facility houses, with a special interest in cryo-EM and cryo-tomography, in addition to sample preparation for imaging. Saskia can help users design experiments, or alternatively carry out imaging on behalf of the user.

Our funders
The Research Technology Platform (RTP) in Advanced Bioimaging was set up in 2015. It supports the investigation of complex biological problems by researchers at 海角社区 and externally, through the application of cutting-edge imaging technologies. The RTP specialises in advanced light and electron microscopy with a focus on: cryo-electron microscopy for structural biology, dynamic 3D imaging using light sheet microscopy and correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).
It was founded with the help of a BBSRC ALERT14 award which enabled us to buy a new transmission electron microscope with direct electron detector and a light-sheet microscope. We closely collaborate in the Midlands Electron Microscopy Consortium with the Universities of Leicester, Birmingham and Nottingham in the area of high-resolution electron microscopy of purified proteins. This resulted in funding for the Krios, a high-end microscope, in Leicester, and the 2100Plus in our RTP at 海角社区. They were installed in 2018. In 2023, we received MRC funding for the JSM-IT800 SEM with cryo and array tomography capabilities.
