Terms of Reference
Purpose
To provide strategic oversight for the delivery of the University鈥檚 Education, Research and International strategies, as approved by Senate and Council, ensuring alignment and integration across academic and professional services activities. The Group advises on priorities that advance the University鈥檚 academic ambitions, excellence, and impact.
1. To provide strategic co-ordination and leadership ensuring the University delivers excellence in education, research and impact.
2. To provide oversight for development and response to key sectoral evaluation requirements e.g. REF, TEF, NSS, international and national rankings and league tables, making recommendations or institutional action to improve the University position, regularly reviewing the impact of any changes.
3. To consider enabling strategies that support the overall institutional strategy and assess the robustness and associated risk management.
4. To ensure University resources are aligned to support the delivery of the University鈥檚 strategies for education and research, including capital space and planning, professional and support services, commercial services and core academic infrastructure, referring key matters to other bodies as appropriate.
5. To provide a forum for early strategic ideas or potential major initiatives for research and education, helping to refine options for further consideration.
6. To monitor wider social, political and economic factors within the UK and globally impacting upon ability to deliver excellence in education and research and develop appropriate responses.
7. To receive reports from / recommendation as required:
- Academic Resourcing Committee
- Student Recruitment Strategy Steering Group (reports into ASG)
- Fees Working Group
- International Committee (reports into ASG)
- Rankings Strategy Group
- Faculty Steering Groups (report into ASG)
- Digital and Operations Committee
