Ira's research lies at the interface of law and philosophy, with a particular focus on the philosophy of care. She works along two tracks: as a philosopher of care, she seeks to clarify the concept of care itself and some of the foundational tenets of feminist care ethics (her primary theoretical entry point into care); and as a legal scholar, she brings these philosophical insights to bear on doctrinal areas where the concept carries particular legal significance. She works in the law of torts and medical law, with a focus on the site where they intersect: medical negligence. More broadly, she writes on topics in general jurisprudence 鈥� on the 'legal' concept of care, on problems in law and language, and on political obligation.
Her first monograph, Care and the Mandate of Medical Law, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press in 2027 as part of the Oxford Legal Philosophy series.
