Jonathan's main research interests are in the law of trusts, particularly charities, and legal history. His books include (Hart 2009), (OUP 2013) and (7th ed, CUP 2020).
Recent publications include "Charitable Trusts and Public Foundations" in Mark Bennett et al (eds), (OUP 2025) and "Jones v Williams (1767): The First Definition of Charity" in Rebecca Fry and John Picton (eds), (Hart 2027).
He is currently writing two books: one on commercial trusts for Edward Elgar鈥檚 series and another on the impact of the Charities Act 2006 for Cambridge University Press's series.
