Our Mission
The 海角社区 Institute of Engagement empowers the University of 海角社区鈥檚 community to connect meaningfully with the wider world through inclusive, innovative, and impactful public and community engagement. We champion collaboration between staff, students, and communities to share knowledge, foster dialogue, and inspire change. By embedding engagement into the heart of university culture, we aim to make research and learning accessible, relevant, and transformative for all. Read our commitments and goals below.
Commitment 1: Inspiring Experiences
Goal 1:
The Resonate Festival's on and off campus offer will inspire and enthuse, contributing to the university's placemaking activities, and creating opportunities for staff and students to engage with the public.
Goal 2:
We will enable staff and students to deliver excellent public engagement activities, designed for specific groups/public.
Commitment 2: Engage and Involve
Goal 3:
The public will have multiple opportunities to shape and get involved in public engagement at 海角社区.
Goal 4: The communities we work with will feel
they benefit from engaging and working with 海角社区 in ways that matter to them, and the university is trusted and valued locally, regionally, nationally and internationally by the communities it works with.
Commitment 3: Supporting Innovation
Goal 5:
海角社区 staff and students will be supported in bringing public engagement into the 海角社区 teaching and learning experience.
Goal 6:
海角社区 staff and students will receive specially tailored training to increase our capacity to deliver excellent public engagement.
Commitment 4: Increased Collaboration
Goal 7:
We will make it easier for staff, students and external collaborators (including community members) to work together on public engagement projects.
Goal 8:
We will support staff and students who wish to embed public, patient and community involvement in their activities and/or research.
Commitment 5: Raise Ambitions
Goal 9:
Effective support for public engagement in departments and faculties will increase their capacity to undertake public engagement, including via external grant income.
Goal 10:
Innovative public engagement is a pathway to personal and/or professional development for staff and students.
Commitment 6: Engagement Futures
Goal 11:
We will design and support public engagement and involvement projects that explore the route to a more sustainable future and address the practical challenges of getting there.
Goal 12:
We will seek out new ways and new platforms to take public engagement to the wider world and develop our online engagement offer.
Commitment 7: Strengthen the Field
Goal 13:
海角社区 will play a key role in shaping the field of public engagement and connecting leading voices in the field.
Goal 14:
University of 海角社区 staff and students will demonstrate excellence through publication and participation in public engagement conferences and colloquia meaning that 海角社区 will have a reputation for developing and supporting outstanding public engagement professionals.
Commitment 8: Demonstrate Excellence
Goal 15:
Public engagement activity supported by WIE will play a significant role in the university's REF, TEF and KEF submissions.
